Hey guys,
I remember a few weeks ago, one of my good friends (She’s basically family now) Kierra texted me and asked me to write about validation and I tried to get her to write about it instead because she’s also an aspiring writer and when I tell you she’s filled with a lot of wisdom, she’s really filled. One thing about me is I push my friends into doing what they love even if it makes them uncomfortable. I honestly can’t wait for the world to receive what she’s holding back right now, but I believe God and I believe he will soon allow her to break free. Kee if you’re reading this right now, I KNOW you’ll soon be writing your heart away and I can’t wait to read your thoughts and recieve your wise words. I can’t wait girl. I know God has a plan for you, and I know he has something built up in you that’s not in me! I can’t wait. I still encourage you to write about validation and stop playing games ma’am.
But yes, today I will be writing about why you should stop seeking the approval of others and why you should start seeking God.
“Stop seeking validation from others because you don’t need permission to be yourself.”- Terran Robinson
I used to seek others approvals on EVERYTHING! Some examples would be, with the guys I dated, the food I decided to eat, the clothes I wore, the Jobs I worked at, joining the military, the decisions I made, the type of lip stick I wanted to wear, just with everything honestly. I didn’t stop until I came across this scripture that said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 KJV
What stood out to me the most in that scripture was “Seek ye first the kingdom of God.” The word doesn’t say, seek your neighbor, seek your mother, seek your birth father, seek your friend, seek your frenemy or seek your spouse. The word says “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” let me say that last part again, “AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS.” Meaning you can’t seek God while still wanting things to be YOUR way nor while still wanting to do the things that feed your flesh. You must surrender every thought, every feeling, every ache, every pain, and every sin. Surrender literally everything to GOD first so you can receive what you’re truly looking for. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t or you can’t seek a friend, family member, etc BUT I’m saying seek God first, simply because……
“Man can’t give you what God can.” – Terran Robinson
So, my question to you would be. If man can’t give you what God can, WHY seek man’s approval and not God’s?
Who do you pray to every night? (if you do pray)
Do you pray to man or do you pray to God?
I would hope everyone’s answer would be they pray to God and if that’s the case then why care about how others may feel about the moves you’re about to make if you consulted with the Lord already or if you’re consulting with the Lord?
Who are you serving? God? or Man?
Who are you trying to please? God? or Man?
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10 NIV
I’m just going to let you guys chew on those questions for a few.
SOME WAYS ON HOW TO STOP SEEKING THE APPROVAL OF OTHERS
- Trust God.
- Trust yourself
- Know who you’re serving.
- Don’t prioritize others opinions. Meaning don’t place others thoughts above God’s and your own.
- Practice self-love.
- Journal your thoughts
- Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
- Become aware of your actions. (admit that you’re indeed seeking the approval of others)
- Throw doubt in the trash can. Stop doubting yourself and stop doubting God. (I felt that one)
- Accept yourself for who you are. I learned that most of the time we lean-to others approval of ourselves because we simply don’t like nor know who we are.
- Know who you are. Find yourself and then Be yourself.
- Get to the bottom of why you’re even seeking the approval of others. Why does anyone elses opinion of you matter so much to you? (I still battle with this from time to time myself)
- Get comfortable with yourself. Be confident! (I really want to write about confidence soon)
- Comparison kills. STOP comparing.
- Learn to love your inner voice.
SOME WAYS ON HOW YOU CAN SEEK GOD
- PRAY.
- Fellowship with other believers.
- Praise God. (Psalm 119:108)
- Feed your spirit with God’s truths about you.
- Read God’s word.
- Trust God.
- Believe God.
- Love God.
- Accept God.
- Worship God.
A prayer I always pray for myself and maybe you can start praying for yourself if you don’t already is, “Lord please allow me to be more pleasing unto you and not man.” I simply pray that prayer because It’s so easy for me to get caught up in what others want and think is best for me and it’s honestly not healthy. It takes me off track from focusing on who I’m serving and off of who I should be seeking and pleasing.
God’s word says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 NIV. That scripture brings peace and affirmation to my heart because God is basically saying when I seek him with my whole heart, he will be there to hear me out, guide me, prepare me, approve me and lead me to the promises he has for me.
He’s not only saying that to me, But he’s also saying that to you! If only you would trust and believe in him.
Stop seeking others approvals, and seek the Lord’s.
Always remember God’s approval and thoughts are far greater than man’s.
*If I would’ve listened to those people who told me to wait, wait, wait, and be friends with my boyfriend I wouldn’t be sharing the news I am about to share right now. My boyfriend is now my fiance. Your girl is getting married and God get’s ALL the glory and honor for it.* #GodsPlan .. I will be writing about it soon.
Thank you all so much for reading. ♥
May you all be blessed!
