How do I get close to you oh God?

Have you ever found yourself praying or asking the Father that question?

How do I get close to you?????

I know I sure have. Actually, it was just in May of this year I found myself asking the Father how do I get close to Him because I felt like I was drifting so far away. It is truly mind bottling how at one moment we can be in a steady-secure-good place with God, and then in a split second we some how some way lose focus and end up somewhere else. Any who, I was experiencing a lot internally around that time. Through my experiences I found out that I was not being authentic with God; however, I was being stand offish with Him. I was treating Him like He did not deserve to hear what I had to say about myself. I was interceding for others, praying for others, going into details for others all while neglecting my truths, pains, frustrations, guilts, problems, and etc.

You are probably wondering.. Well what changed?

My spiritual mother had encouraged not only myself, but many other women that she mentor/lead to create a “Needs List”. After we wrote everything that we needed we had to present everything that we wrote, and that was on our hearts to the Father during that time. Her encouraging us to partake in that helped me realize that I needed a lot from God, and that I was not being true to Him in my prayer time when praying for myself.

On my “needs list” I wrote that I needed peace, a vacation/break/rest, deliverance, consistency, creativity, prophetic flow, and prayers that reach God and change lives. When I went before the Lord that night, I prayed my list and literally did not feel the presence of God at all. So, I was stuck trying to figure out why, and then I heard Holy Spirit say “go deeper daughter.” He then began to ask me all of these questions: “Why do you need peace? What is going on with you? Why haven’t you been getting rest? What is stressing you out or keeping you from resting well at night? What do you need deliverance from? What areas of your life do you lack consistency in? What areas of your life are you struggling in with being creative? What is going on with you prophetically?, and etc.

After He bombarded my mind with all of those questions I just started crying. Then I started saying, “But God…. You are all knowing…. you know why I need all of these things…. you see what I go through on the daily…” In other words, I was being prideful because I did not want to open up to God for whatever reason. But Him being the loving and kind Father that He is He says, “Just because I see, hear and know all things does not mean I don’t want to hear what you are experiencing directly from YOU daughter.” It was in that moment that I realized that God was attempting to expand our relationship, and that is when I began to weep and ask Him How do I get close to you Father?????

After 2 minutes went by God answered my question! Below will be encouragement and instructions on how to get close to the Father.

How to get close to the Father!

  • Creating an atmosphere that Holy Spirit can rest in: no distractions!
  • Reading and studying the word of God: what better way to learn about God than to read His word?
  • Praying in your Heavenly language, worshipping the Father, and digging deeper into His presence: Let Him know who He is to you, and how much you need Him.
  • Trust God with all of your heart, mind, and soul.
  • Being vulnerable with God: giving Him access to the hidden compartments of your heart, and allowing Him to tear down the walls you built in order to protect yourself. This point is vital because it is in those weak moments – vulnerable moments that God is able to be God. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10) It is in those moments that you are able to gain access to a fresh revelation of who God is personally to you.
  • Having encounters with the Father: fresh sweet revelations will be evident, and will heal, deliver, and provide everything that you need in that time. That is how you will grow closer to the Father.

I had an encounter with the Father that night, and since then my life has not been the same. Everything on my needs list has literally been coming to pass. Since that night I have been seeking the Father differently. I have been making everything personal in prayer. I have been being intentional in my prayers, and I have been ensuring that my heart is postured towards Him. After I prayed in detail with specifics… The Lord showed up for me! I have been sharing EVERYTHING with Him now because like David said, “my help comes from the Lord.” He provided me with the help that I needed that night; however, I had to trust Him with my vulnerability first, and that was not easy to do. It is definitely achievable though, and well worth it! Once the wall is torn down between you and God you won’t have to worry about it being rebuilt again because His love is just that real!

I am forever grateful for the intimate moment I had with Christ that night, and I encourage you (if needed) to try utilizing the tips above to grow closer to the Father.

If you are feeling led to write out your “needs list” please do so, and then present it to the Father! Please make sure you are very detailed and specific with your prayers. He really loves when His children trust Him with everything.

I believe He will answer your prayers, and deal with you in LOVE.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV

I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Psalm121: 1-8 NKJV

Thank you so much for reading this blog!

I pray that God’s blessings and riches be upon you, and that no sorrow will be added with it. I also speak life into your relationship with God. I decree and declare that your relationship with Christ will not be the same after this! I decree and declare that your relationship with Him will grow beyond what you can imagine. I decree and declare that you will trust Him with all of your heart, mind, and soul. I decree and declare that as you become vulnerable with Him- He will embrace you with His sweet Love, and whisper sweet fresh revelations of who He is to you in your ear. You will see the manifestations of God in your life! Your prayers will be answered, and your relationship with Christ will be like none other. In Jesus Name, Amen!

Love you all so very much!
